The overall goal of the Partnering Academy offerings is to build the skill sets and knowledge base of project team members in areas essential to effective partnering, thereby contributing to the success of the project. Team-building occurs among project team members who participate in programs together. Courses will be presented in four hour blocks with an emphasis on active participation by attendees.
P001 – Partnering Works! - Basic Concepts and Principals of Partnering
Objective
Increased understanding about the basic concepts and principals of partnering will facilitate effective implementation of partnering on your project. This course will present the basic concepts and principals of partnering including the foundations of partnering, the cost/trust relationship, partnering values, the issue resolution continuum, effective measurement and follow up; and why culture change is required for building effective high-trust teams. Other IPI research findings will be shared.

P002 – Fundamentals of Partnering using IPI’s Best Practices
Objective
IPI research has collected the best practices for partnering to help project teams implement partnering on their projects so as to increase success and lower costs. This course will teach you the fundamentals of implementing an integrated partnering program using the IPI best practices. It will also provide tips and tools for making it partnering work. The course will focus on how to facilitate the required culture change to create a collaborative, high-trust environment on your construction project.

P003 – Fundamentals of Partnering on Caltrans Projects
Objective
Caltrans has adopted many of the IPI’s best practices for an integrated partnering program. This course will provide specific information about how to implement these concepts on Caltrans projects. This training is a good introduction to the requirements and recommendations for teams working on Caltrans projects or who want to understand the lessons Caltrans has learned after 15 years of partnering.

P004 – Standards and Expectations for Facilitators on Caltrans Construction Projects
Objective
Caltrans established “Partnering Facilitator Standards and Expectations” to promote quality and consistency in its statewide partnering program. This course for facilitators of Caltrans projects will review these requirements in detail and establish the baseline for performance by facilitators. It will overview Caltrans construction policies and procedures and emphasize the importance of the facilitator’s role in making partnering Caltrans’ “way of doing business.”

P005 – How to Effectively Create and Implement your Project Dispute Resolution Plan
Objective
Establishing an effective project dispute resolution plan is one of the results of the kick-off partnering session. This course will take this process another step by providing strategies, tools and process for implementing your plan including effectively implementing the dispute resolution ladder, how and when to use a Facilitated Issue Resolution Partnering Sessions and the Facilitated Dispute Resolution process.

P006 – Non-Adversarial Negotiating on the Jobsite
Objective
Changes happen in every project, creating opportunities for effective negotiating. This course will teach you the seven principles of non-adversarial negotiating and how to apply the concepts to your team and between the stakeholders on your project.

P007 – Dealing with Difficult People
Objective
People come in all shapes, sizes and personalities. Learning how to deal effectively with people who are different than you can significantly increase the cohesiveness of your team, especially in the high-stress situations that occur on projects. This course will help you identify and understand why people do what they do and how to develop strategies for dealing with people who are impacting the overall success of the team. You will learn to flex your own behavior to be more compatible on the jobsite.

P008 – Developing Team Collaboration
Objective
Tools that create partnership and quickly resolve problems in the face of conflict are essential. This course will present a model for integrating collaboration and conflict resolution to obtain a shift in attitude, assumptions and approaches when facing a problem.

P009 – Build with Style (Communicating with DISC)
Objective
Some people just naturally get along and some naturally don't. Effective projects teams have people with diverse backgrounds, strengths and weaknesses; this diversity is part of what makes projects successful. Understanding and communicating with individuals who are different than us can sometimes be challenging. In this course, participants will use the DISC self-assessment tool to identify their preferred style, and their team's mix of styles. You will also learn the characteristics and preferences of all four styles and discuss strategies for flexing your style for improved inter-style communication.

P010 – More Per Hour: Planning and Running Effective Project Meetings
Objectives
Well run project meetings deal with project issues so that they don't grow into project problems. Strategies for improving your meetings include shortening your project meetings to make them more effective. This course will include strategies from Google and others outside the construction industry, as well as lessons-learned within Caltrans to make meetings and follow up the most effective for your project.
